No-Fluff AI & Automation Tips
By our Founder Carly Meyers
"The market is constantly changing, and you need to be adaptable.".
Today, we're going to cut through the B.S. and talk about what you don't need to be successful online.
If you scroll through Instagram, YouTube, or anywhere online really, you'll find tons of conflicting advice. Some people say you absolutely need to do this, while others say the exact opposite. It's overwhelming! But here's the thing: marketing has changed.
I recently spoke to someone who's been in marketing for 20 years. They were convinced that to succeed today, you have to have a bunch of specific things. But I disagree. Especially considering how much things have changed in the last year alone, with the rise of AI.
The key is to stay on top of what's working now, what people actually want, and how their attention spans and desires have evolved.
So, let's ditch some of the things you might be wasting time on. These are things I've done myself, so I speak from experience. And while some of these might be controversial, they could save you 6-12 months of going down the wrong path.
Ditch #1: The Elaborate Business Plan
When I started, my partner was a big believer in business plans. He needed everything mapped out before taking a single step. But I'm different. I'm the kind of person who gets an idea and then immediately executes it.
Honestly, that's my superpower. It's allowed me to find my perfect audience and niche. Because I wasn't stuck waiting on a business plan, I was out there trying things and learning.
The problem with super detailed business plans is that they can restrict you. You get stuck following this rigid roadmap and miss opportunities to pivot when necessary. The market is constantly changing, and you need to be adaptable.
Sure, you should have some general goals and a direction you want to go in. But don't get hung up on every tiny detail. Online business is all about optimization. It's about constantly tweaking and testing to improve your results.
Think of it like this: Instead of planning out the next two or three years in detail (who even knows what will happen a year from now?), have broad goals and a willingness to adapt based on what the market tells you.
Ditch #2: The Fancy Website (For Now)
This might surprise you, but you don't necessarily need a website right away. Here's the thing: websites are for showcasing your business, not driving sales.
A sales funnel, on the other hand, is designed to move people through a specific process. It takes someone who might not know you and guides them towards becoming a paying customer.
Focus on building a powerful sales funnel. This is where you'll send all your traffic, whether it's from your podcast, YouTube channel, Instagram, or blog.
The funnel should offer something valuable in exchange for someone's email address. This could be a free guide, a training, a checklist, or something similar. Building an email list is crucial!
People aren't lining up to subscribe to newsletters anymore. They want something valuable in return.
Ditch #3: The Certificate Collection
Listen, I understand the desire to be qualified. But there are some things you simply don't need a certificate for. If you're giving medical advice or dealing with someone's mental health, of course, qualifications are essential.
But some things, like social media certifications, become obsolete in a blink of an eye. The platforms are constantly evolving, and that certificate you just got might not be worth the paper it's printed on.
Credibility comes from taking action and getting results for your clients. People care more about seeing that you're successful than a fancy piece of paper.
Most of what I know, actually all of it, comes from experience. I dove in, took action, worked with clients, and got results. That's how I learned and became qualified to teach what I teach.
Ditch #4: The Multi-Income Stream Myth (For Now)
Having multiple income streams is great, but not necessarily when you're starting out. It can be tempting to chase nine different income streams at once, but that's a recipe for burnout.
Think of it like layering. Focus on building one thing at a time, then move on to the next. This is the fastest way to reach your income and lifestyle goals.
Focus on one income stream and master it.
Instead of spreading yourself thin across multiple projects, dedicate your energy to building a strong foundation in one area. This could be a specific course, a coaching program, or a high-ticket service.
Once you've got a system in place that's generating consistent income, then you can explore adding additional income streams.
Here's the thing: when you focus on mastering one thing, you become an expert. People are drawn to experts. They want to work with someone who knows exactly what they're doing.
So ditch the idea that you need to have all the answers right away. It's okay to be a beginner. Focus on becoming the best beginner you can be in your chosen niche.
There you have it! Four things you can ditch to start your online business the right way. Remember, ditching the fluff doesn't mean ditching the hard work. There's still plenty of effort required.
But by focusing on the right things (like building a sales funnel and becoming an expert), you'll be well on your way to success.
